The Bloomington Police Department investigates after a city transit but struck and killed a woman near the bus station at the corner of Third Street, and Walnut, Thursday, September 26, 2019 in Bloomington, Ind. Police are not yet releasing the name of the women pending notification of next of kin. BPD Police Lt. John Kovach said, "At this time preliminarily it appears that the city transit bus was pulling out of the station when the victim was struck. She is a deceased. It is a female. I do not have any other information, age, or name or anything that we're going to release at this time, obviously due to next of kin notification. So at this point, the investigation is ongoing with our accident reconstructionists. I do not know when any information will be released for the accident. The city bus routinely drives through the Fritz Terrace neighborhood too fast. I don’t have a radar gun but the speed limit is 20 and they are obviously going over. On Saturday 5/21 sometime around 3:00 I believe the bus hit and killed a neighbor’s dog near 3131 Valleyview and continued their route. I did not witness the event but was told by a neighbor the bus stopped for a moment at the same location the dog was hit, near the same time, then continued on. I would like the transit department to identify who the driver was and see what the story is on why they did not stop and try to help or identify the owner of the dog, or if I am mistaken and the driver claims it was not them and perhaps maybe they witnessed the event and could provide more details. Even without the issue of who hit the dog, the bus needs to slow down and not exceed the 20 MPH speed limit. There are lots of kids in this neighborhood, the streets are narrow and the curve at the top of the hill is a blind spot for oncoming traffic. Please address this issue before someone gets hurt or killed.

Shortly before 10 am on 12/7 bus route 3 bus number 1777 lp 51959 ran a red light at 3rd and Woodlawn. They were at full speed and the opposing traffic had already been turning - 2 cars in front of me - when I had to slam on my breaks in the middle of the intersection. It is unclear that the driver was even aware of the error as myself and others laid on our horns... it seemed almost as if they thought that the far right lane didn't have to obey the light. Many people could have been killed both in cars and the pedestrians in the intersection by this carelessness.

The busses on the #2 route need to be cleaned or swapped out for newer models. Many of the seats are stained and you can't tell if it is safe to sit down, not knowing if it is a "fresh" spill or an old stain. And would it be possible to use some different busses? We get the same old busses every day, while other routes get the newer, nicer, cleaner electric models.

City busses keep parking here and block a blind turn. They sit there for hours not moving an inch. The dude I saw that was parked there was reading a book in the drivers seat. There is a bus stop up the road. why not park there? Parking at my marked location just created an incredibly dangerous situation where only one car can fit past the bus in a blind turn. Ive almost been hit several times because of people rounding the corner too fast and realizing that there is a bus blocking the two way street. I dont know why but the4y sit there for HOURS. there are definitely safer places to park during their breaks. Please fix this issue, I dont want to have an accident there.
