Hi there, I have noticed a large increase in homeless activity in Bloomington this year. In the past, homeless individuals have largely remained in Seminary Park. Now, I see them camped in the park by Hartzell’s on Kirkwood, up by the square further north on Walnut, and even in Bryan Park. Homelessness is a complex problem and individuals in this situation face unfathomable challenges, but many of my peers and I feel their presence in social areas of Bloomington has negatively impacted the safety and cleanliness of the city. Just yesterday, I witnessed a homeless man harass a girl sitting in Brother’s Bar and Grill by slapping the window as if he was slapping her bottom through the window. It made me feel unsafe in my Bloomington home. Similarly, the park near Hartzell’s on Kirkwood is no longer an inviting place to eat ice cream with friends due to the mess left by homeless populations in this area. I am so sorry for their situation and challenges they face, but I do not want the homeless epidemic to impact the value and vibrance of the many lovely green spaces in Bloomington. For these reasons, I wanted to express my concerns about the spread of homelessness in Bloomington this past year and implore you to seek solutions for the issue. I am not an expert in social services or rehabilitation, so I am not sure if there are solutions to this problem, but I hope the city of Bloomington will take my concerns to heart to both help the homeless and improve the safety and well-being of Bloomington. Not a complaint! Thank you for letting fragmented eco-systems repair themselves. Letting living things grow and take back the areas that have been destroyed for sidewalks, side paths and trails. Animals, insects and plants are now taking back was destroyed. This truly is tree city USA.

I visited downtown Bloomington today and it was my understanding there was free parking at the meters for small business Saturday. The meters were flashing red and was confused if I needed to pay. Screen said nothing about free parking. Just wanted to let someone in the city to be aware.

Hello, I am looking to get some advice on how to trap a racoon that continues to come into our home. We have sealed off the cat doors several different times and it continues to come back. We have purchased a have-a-heart trap and used marshmallows, canned wet cat food, canned tuna, etc and it's not working. If there are other things that we could be trying please let me know. I have been trying to obtain a copy of my police report. The process in order to do so is unreasonable for adults with full time employment. The office hours hours in order sign the paper to get my case report are typically unobtainable with my work hours and commute. Especially with everything related to COVID-19, there should be an option to submit the form online and make the request digitally. However, I would also like to mention that I am thankful for the work that the police department does to keep the community safe.

Three weeks ago, I was riding my bike west on 7th St in the bicycle lane as a car entered from Indiana Ave into the bike lane. I had to stop my bike and lift it over the curb to get around the car that was impeding both lanes of the bike lane. This is not my first experience with cars in the 7th St bike lane. Please install a post or bollard at the protected bicycle lane entrances to discourage cars from entering it. This is a simple, easy to install, and low cost solution. I don't understand why it wasn't installed in the first place.
