The Winslow Woods Park playground is complete, and is open and ready for play!

Please join Bloomington Parks and Recreation and special guest Mayor John Hamilton on Friday, Dec. 17 at noon for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially dedicate the new playground.

Background

The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department in April 2021 contracted with Sinclair Recreation, LLC for the purchase and installation of playground equipment, and the purchase and installation of poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing at Winslow Woods Park Playground.

The new playground replaced the existing Winslow Woods Park playground, originally installed in 1990.

Play equipment components, and the arrangement of those components, was left to the expertise of Sinclair Recreation. The Parks and Recreation Department used a request for proposal process from play equipment manufacturers, and considered a variety of factors such as price, integration of play events, appearance, aesthetics and general “fun” factor.

Seven vendors submitted proposals for this project, for a total of 17 different designs.

Playground design proposals were evaluated using five weighted factors:

  • Aesthetics and Appearance
  • Play Value
  • Accessible Components
  • How the Design Addresses Guidelines & Specs
  • Cost/Quality/Delivery

Designs with the top scores were merged into a "Winslow Woods Park Playground Family Survey" and shared with participants in Bloomington Parks and Recreation's Kid City programs for children in grades K through 6. Survey responses were reviewed and considered, and a final design was chosen. Click here to see the final design rendering.

Total Playground Cost:

  • Poured-in-place, accessible rubber surfacing $21,200
  • Playground equipment $97,800
