Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that local artist Joe LaMantia's artwork will be featured in the atrium of City Hall March 10-31, 2006. "Directionals" is a community collaborative art project featuring 17 thought-provoking signs.

Many Bloomington individuals and organizations contributed to the design and painting of the pieces. Health care, sustainability, democracy, homelessness and diversity are just some of the concepts and issues featured on the "Directionals," reflecting current elements of Bloomington or a vision of Bloomington in the future.

"I never know exactly where brainstorming and ideas will take me, but I've learned to trust it and enjoy the ride," LaMantia said. "This is the energy that drives me to be a collaborative artist."

The pieces were recently displayed throughout downtown Bloomington in celebration of Indiana University's ArtsWeek and the theme "Our Town."

The signs were affixed to downtown light poles with the assistance of the City of Bloomington Public Works Department.
