Bloomington, IN -- Fire Chief Jeff Barlow and the City of Bloomington Police and Fire Departments will remember victims, families and heroes of September 11 on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006. The City will hold a memorial ceremony in Showers Plaza beginning at 8:45 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

"It's hard to imagine that the tragic events of 9/11 happened nearly five years ago," Barlow said. "We want to honor all those who perished. We also want to recognize the heroic efforts of police and fire personnel that played so integral a part in the rebuilding and recovery efforts."

Monday marks the five-year anniversary of 9/11.

Emergency vehicles and personnel will be present for the ceremony. Several guest speakers will also make brief remarks.

City firefighters from Station #5 created a memorial statue to commemorate the firefighters who died in the catastrophic events surrounding 9/11. Visitors can view the statue in the City Hall Atrium on Monday morning and then from Tuesday through the end of September.
