City Parks Director Elected To National Board

- City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Director Mick Renneisen was elected to a three-year term on the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Board of Directors this week during the organization's annual national meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The ASA is the governing body of the sport of softball. This body not only awards more than 100 national softball tournaments to cities around the country, but also considers changes to the rules of the softball and determines policies that govern the organization's function.

Renneisen was selected as one of eight at-large Board members, and will represent the Northern Territory states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. There 15 members on the ASA Board of Directors.

"I'm honored that my peers have given me the opportunity and responsibility of representing them on the ASA Board of Directors," Renneisen said. "My focus will be to continue to asses the changing trends of participation in the sport of softball, as well as to address the safety and integrity of the game in order to make it one that all ages have the opportunity to enjoy."

Softball has been a popular recreational activity for the citizens of Bloomington for many years. According to the City's Parks and Recreation Department, more than 4,000 adults and 400 youth participate in Parks and Recreation softball programs annually. Nationally, more than 3.5 million people participate in ASA softball programs.
