Bloomington, IN - In a news conference today, Mayor Mark Kruzan announced that the City of Bloomington will grant $10,000 to Jill's House, Inc. to support its building project. The announcement helps celebrate Be Generous Bloomington, the final theme of the 2006 Be Bloomington community character campaign.

"The City is so pleased that our community will have a facility such as Jill's House to help care for patients and their families at a most critical time in their treatment," Kruzan said. "The cancer patients will find Hoosier hospitality at its best at Jill's House with its homelike atmosphere and supportive services. We are proud to be able to assist with this cause in a modest way."

Part of the funds will be dedicated to the development of a sign that serves as the official 'Welcome To The Community' at the check-in desk of Jill's House.

"This gift from the City of Bloomington represents the love and concern the City has shown to Jill's family over the past six years," said Bud Howard, Chairman of the Jill's House Board. "We appreciate the warm response we have received from the Bloomington community, and we're excited that building will begin soon. We wish to extend our appreciation to all who made this possible."

Jill's House, Inc. is an independent 501(c) (3) organization working to raise funds to build a residence for cancer patients and their caregivers near the Indiana University Cyclotron. Its mission is to provide a temporary, home-like residence for patients undergoing outpatient therapy at the Indiana University Proton Therapy facility. Jill's House will be equipped with bedrooms, kitchens and laundry facilities, which will be available to patients and families at little or no cost.

Monetary donations are being sought to supplement building costs and furnishings. Additional funds raised will be dedicated to an endowment for Jill's House operations. Gift naming opportunities also are available to individuals and organizations.
