Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington's Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department will be holding two public hearings on applications received for the 2009 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). CDBG funding is federal community development assistance dollars provided annually to the City by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), funding that is then distributed to local organizations for improvements to the community.

The public hearing for Physical Improvement funding will be held tonight, Jan. 8, at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers, located in City Hall, 401 N. Morton. The public hearing for Social Service funding will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 pm, also in the Council Chambers.

In 2008, HAND allocated $827,024; $537,567 for physical improvements and $124,053 for social services. The amount of funding available to the City for 2009 is yet to be determined by HUD.

Both hearings are open to the public, and all interested parties are invited.
