Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington's Commission on the Status of Black Males reminds the community that the deadline for nominations the fourth annual Outstanding Black Male Leaders of Tomorrow Award are due no later than February 13. The award recognizes local contributions by African American youth and seeks to encourage the development of future leaders.

"When the City of Bloomington established its Commission on the Status of Black Males, it did so in part to examine and propose solutions to some of the challenges faced by African American males," Mayor Mark Kruzan said. "The Annual Recognition of Outstanding Black Male Leaders of Tomorrow award offers a unique opportunity for the Commission and the City to recognize young, emerging African American leaders and affirm their contributions to our community."

Nominees must have resided in Monroe County for at least one year, and must have been involved personally or professionally in making meaningful contributions to the Bloomington community.

Past recipients include Bloomington High School North student Matt Herndon in 2006, Bloomington High School South senior Cordero L. Rhyne and Indiana University student Alvin Henry in 2007, and Ivy Tech Community College Staff Member Gerald L. Mitchell in 2008. This year's award will be presented at the City of Bloomington's Black History Month Gala in February.

Nominations can be made online at [www.bloomington.in.gov/cfrd|http://bloomington.in.gov/documents/viewDocument.php?document_id=3562;].
