Bloomington
, IN - The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission is sponsoring a public forum on Tuesday, Feb. 24 on the topic "Economic Justice for All: Where do We Go from Here?" The forum will commence at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street, Bloomington.

The title is based upon that of a book and several speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in which he called for America to concentrate more on helping the poor. Although best known as the leader of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King was also an ardent champion of decent living conditions and economic justice for all.

The King Commission is sponsoring this forum to discuss the causes and consequences of the current economic crisis. Further, it will provide the citizens of Bloomington with the opportunity to express their views, discuss how the crisis is affecting their lives and offer ideas on how to encourage greater economic justice and decent living standards for all Americans.

A panel consisting of members of the Bloomington community and moderated by Charlotte Zietlow will open the forum with short presentations designed to stimulate discussion. Panelists include Monroe County Councilman Warren Henegar, Sheldon Gellar of the City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, and Jeremy Gilmore of the Indiana University Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development. Following the panel presentations, citizens will be invited to express their views.

For information about the forum, please contact Craig Brenner, City Community and Family Resources Department Special Projects Coordinator, at 812-349-3471 or brennerc@bloomington.in.gov.
