Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) and Parks and Recreation Department announce the 2010 Buskirk-Chumley Theater Grant Program.

The goal of the program is to provide low-cost access to the Theater for programming with a demonstrated community benefit. A limited number of days are available during 2010. Deadline for all applications is 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.

The City will host a public information session about the program on Monday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street. The meeting will be led by Miah Michaelsen, Assistant Director of Economic and Sustainable Development for the Arts. Potential applicants are invited to attend to learn more about the program. Application forms will be available at the session and also can be downloaded at www.bloomington.in.gov/BEAD.

A competitive grant program that subsidizes the rental fee for one day's use of the theater, the grant has in the past facilitated many performances that otherwise might have not found venues. The awards do not cover required or additional labor costs, equipment rental, box office or ticketing fees or other incidental fees and charges assessed by Buskirk-Chumley Theater Management (BCTM). Accepted grantees will be responsible for those costs, and usage dates must be negotiated with BCTM, which reserves the right to black out some dates.

The grant program is open to any individual, business or organization located within the corporate boundaries of the City of Bloomington. Applications will be reviewed and scored by a review committee consisting of representatives of the City's Legal, Parks, Community and Family Resources and Economic and Sustainable Development Departments and the Office of the Mayor.
