Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network encourages the public to Be Active Bloomington by supporting I PARTICIPATE, a national campaign sponsored by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF).

The campaign will kick off with a week-long television event beginning Monday, Oct. 19. During that week, a number of the higher profile programs on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and other broadcast networks will spotlight service through scripted programming, Public Service Announcements and storylines about volunteerism.

"I PARTICIPATE is a fantastic way to promote the benefits on volunteering to a very wide audience, and the efforts of the EIF are extremely important to ensuring that this issue remains a national priority," said Bet Savich, Director of the City's Volunteer Network. "I hope people will truly Be Active in showing their support."

The mission of the Volunteer Network is to coordinate and mobilize citizens to address Bloomington's needs by connecting volunteers with those organizations that serve different sectors of the community. Locally promoting national campaigns such as I PARTICIPATE helps to foster Bloomington's growing spirit of volunteerism and encourage participation for these very important community partners.

Programs participating in the campaign include All My Children, America's Funniest Home Videos, CSI: Miami, Grey's Anatomy, The Biggest Loser, The Office and many more. For a complete list of all participating shows and networks, visit www.iparticipate.org.

To get active locally, contact the City's Volunteer Network at 349-3433 or volunteer@bloomington.in.gov or visit www.bloomington.in.gov/volunteer.
