Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase Formations, an arashi shibori textile installation by Daren Pitts Redman in the City Hall Atrium, 401 N. Morton St., Dec. 1- Dec. 30, 2009.

Arashi shibori is the process of rolling fabric on a pole and twisting, scrunching, dyeing and binding it with string [image:6124,right]to produce patterns that are reminiscent of rain. Pitts-Redman created the floating textile forms to blend seamlessly with the exhibit space and to reflect the colors in the natural wooded area surrounding her home and studio in Brown County.

A recipient of the Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artists Grant Program in 2008, Pitts-Redman has been awarded art commissions by the Bloomington Area Arts Council and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, she is the Indiana representative for Studio Art Quilters Associates and has studied with Nancy Crow, Josef Bajus and Jan Myers-Newbury.

The opening reception for Formations is Thursday, Dec. 3, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for local artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium.
