MOSAIC Film Festival Offers Learning Opportunities Through The Arts

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department (CFRD) presents the 3rd Annual MOSAIC Film Festival as part of the Diversity Theatre program at various locations throughout the community.

MOSAIC features short films for adults highlighting poverty and homelessness and films for children focusing on disability and accepting differences. Among the films scheduled to be shown are several by local filmmakers and two by students at Batchelor Middle School, one for adults and one for children. All MOSAIC events are free and open to the public.

The following is the list of venues for each of the festival's days:

  • Saturday, Feb. 27: Monroe County Public Library - 303 E. Kirkwood Avenue, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Mar. 2: Rhinos All Age Music Club - 331 S. Walnut Street, 7 p.m.-11 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Mar. 3: Rhinos All Age Music Club - 331 S. Walnut Street, 7 p.m.-11 p.m.
  • Saturday, Mar. 6: Monroe County Library Ellettsville Branch - 600 W. Temperance Street, Ellettsville, 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the issues highlighted in the movies with representatives of the local agencies partnering on the MOSAIC Festival, all of which provide services in the areas of poverty, homelessness and disability. These representatives include Reverend Virginia Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, Shalom Community Center Executive Director Joel Rekas and Stepping Stones, Inc. Executive Director Sheri Benham. Bloomington filmmaker Jo Throckmorton will also be on hand to present remarks about his film, Hard Life, on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Community partners for the MOSAIC Film Festival include Shalom Community Center, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Community Kitchen of Monroe County, Inc., Stepping Stones, Inc., AccessAbilities, Inc., City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility, Centerstone, Stone Belt Arc, Milestones Clinical and Health Resources, Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
