Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department announced today that applications are available for its 2010 Citizens' Academy, which will meet weekly from August 26 through October 21.

The Citizens' Academy provides participants with an interactive learning experience about and first-hand insight into municipal government services, programs and responsibilities.

"I liked meeting the fellow students and I really liked learning more about the City," said Sophia Hauserman, a participant of the 2009 Citizens' Academy. "I feel much more connected to it and I've been here thirty years!"

The course will be limited to 30 participants to ensure a quality experience for all attendees, and applicants are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for 2010 Citizens' Academy applications is Mon., July 29, 2010.

City residents who are interested in civic participation or increasing their knowledge about local government operations can apply online at the City of Bloomington's web site, [http://www.bloomington.in.gov/citizensacademy|http://www.bloomington.in.gov/citizensacademy].
