Bloomington, IN -- Two new officers joined the City of Bloomington Police Department last week in a ceremony held at City Hall.
Officers Kiley Jarrett and J'an Guess were sworn-in on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, and will go on to complete Law Enforcement Academy before beginning active duty.
Officer Jarrett was born in Bloomington and attended Bloomington High School North before graduating in 2005. She attended Ball State and completed her bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2009. Officer Guess graduated from Bloomington High School South in 2003 and earned a bachelor's degree in Business Finance from Indiana University-Bloomington in 2008.
"It's great having local talent decide to settle down in Bloomington and make this kind of commitment after graduation," said Police Chief Mike Diekhoff. "The Department is always pleased to employ people who know and love the community the way Kiley and J'an do." [J'an Guess|image:8110,right]
Mayor Mark Kruzan expressed how encouraging it is to be filling vacancies and keeping the size of the police force strong when many communities find themselves cutting back.
"Thanks to the commitment made by City employees and the organization as a whole to applying strategic, fiscal restraint and responsibility, Bloomington can afford to keep our public safety departments staffed, trained and ready to serve the community," said Kruzan.
The City of Bloomington Police Department consists of 98 full time officers, just two away from Kruzan's promise of 100 officers.
