Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the City of Bloomington's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission has awarded grants totaling $22,744 to local organizations for "A Day On! Not A Day Off" volunteer service projects on the King holiday, Monday, Jan. 17. Kruzan urges citizens to honor Dr. King by participating in one of the day's many community-centered activities.

"Martin Luther King, Jr, Day presents an excellent opportunity for us to enhance community condition and collaborations," Kruzan said. "We are pleased to announce that this year we are awarding the largest amount of funding since we began 'A Day On! Not A Day Off' in 1998. We are very grateful to the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County and to Service for Peace for providing the City grants of $12,000 and $10,000, respectively. We are directing all funds to local groups to help them acquire the materials and supplies that will be used by volunteers."
