Bloomington, IN -- City of Bloomington personnel continue cleanup in the community after a sudden storm swept through the area Monday evening.
Police, Fire, Public Works, Utilities, Parks & Recreation, and other City staff responded quickly to coordinate responses to incoming calls of damage caused by the storm. City Fire and Police personnel inspected damaged infrastructure and ensured that buildings were safely evacuated and secured. No injuries were reported from the storm. Street crews began removal of damaged trees and limbs right away, and work will likely continue throughout the week. Areas to be cleaned up have been prioritized based on safety issues and are being addressed in order of priority.
Approximately 70 trees have been identified for cleanup and removal by the City's Streets division and the Parks & Recreation department. Trees that have fallen onto buildings and into roadways will be the first priority.
"I thank all City staff who quickly and professionally responded to last night's storm," said Mayor Mark Kruzan. "Public Safety personnel, as well as many of our Street, Utilities, Housing and Neighborhood Development, Risk Management, and Parks & Recreation staff did an outstanding job of jumping right into action, communicating with one another, prioritizing needs and responding quickly to ensure the safety of residents during and after the storm. We are all happy and relieved there were no injuries to staff or community members."
