Bloomington, IN - In celebration of Bloomington's tradition of volunteer and civic service, Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that nominations are being sought for the 2012 Mayor's Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement.

Nominees are being sought in the following categories: Individual Young Adult (age 25 and under); Individual Adult (age 26 and over); Group Student Organizations; and Group Community-based organizations. Applications are available at [http://bloomington.in.gov/safe|http://bloomington.in.gov/safe] or at the Community and Family Resources Department, 401 N. Morton Street, Suite 260, and the deadline for submitting applications is December 16, 2011, at 5 p.m.

The purpose of the Award is to acknowledge Bloomington residents, who, through their commitment to community service, have significantly improved civic life in Bloomington. Individuals or organizations demonstrate commitment to civic engagement by personifying the notion of "public good vs. private gain" and by identifying and addressing issues of public concern. Examples of such involvement include efforts to address an issue, working with others in a community to solve a problem, or interacting with the institutions of a representative democracy.

Individual nominees must be residents of Bloomington; group nominees must perform work or services within the Bloomington city limits. Individuals and groups may be nominated by any member of the community or City of Bloomington staff, commission, or committee members.

For additional information, please contact Beverly Calendar-Anderson at 349-3560 or at [mailto:andersb@bloomington.in.gov].
