Jack Hopkins Social Services Funding Committee Announces Funding Availability

Bloomington, Ind. - The Bloomington Common Council's Jack Hopkins Social Services Funding Committee announces that it is accepting applications from social service agencies for use of $270,000 in social service funds. Applications are available at [the Committee's webpage|/jack-hopkins]. Applications are due by Monday, March 30, at 4 p.m.

Named in honor of former Councilmember Jack Hopkins who helped establish the program in 1993, the program is dedicated to funding projects that improve the lives of City residents who are low- to moderate-income, under 18 years of age, elderly, affected with a disability or otherwise disadvantaged. Since 2004, the annual funding for the Jack Hopkins program has more than doubled due to the commitment of Mayor Kruzan and the City Council. Overall, the Jack Hopkins program has provided approximately $3.41 million to social services agencies for projects which made a difference in the lives of Bloomington citizens.

The Committee is composed of five members of the Bloomington Common Council and two members representing other City entities. Councilmembers serving are Susan Sandberg, Dorothy Granger, Tim Mayer, Darryl Neher and Marty Spechler. Linda Sievers and Sue Sgambelluri also serve on this year's Committee.

Committee Chair Susan Sandberg states, "We are fortunate to have so many local nonprofit organizations dedicated to addressing the growing need for social services in our community. It is our privilege to allocate funding to assist them in their important work through the Jack Hopkins Social Services Program."

The 2015 Jack Hopkins Social Services Funding cycle is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Anthony Pizzo, former Committee member, City Council member and tireless advocate for our community's most vulnerable.

Applications must meet the following criteria:

• The program should address a previously-identified priority for social services funds (as indicated in the SCAN Report, City's Housing and Neighborhood Development department's 2010-2014 Consolidated Plan, or other community-wide survey of social service needs);
• The funds should provide a one-time investment that, through matching funds or other fiscal leveraging, makes a significant contribution to the program; and
• This investment in the program should lead to broad and long-lasting benefits to the community.
