Bloomington Watercolor Society’s 10th Anniversary Show is October’s Atrium Exhibit

Bloomington Watercolor Society's 10th Anniversary Show is October's Atrium Exhibit

Bloomington, Ind. - During the month of October, the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will exhibit the 10th anniversary membership show of the Bloomington Watercolor Society, entitled "We Paint…" The show will present paintings from over 35 members of all subject matters, including still life, landscapes and animals.

The Bloomington Watercolor Society promotes a growing relationship with artists to encourage one another and provide opportunities for promoting and exhibiting its watercolor paintings in the community. Membership is open to everyone.

Members of the Bloomington Watercolor Society have painted parks, public and private gardens, local landmarks and wineries, heirlooms, cemeteries, Bradford Woods and more. They have exhibited members' works at City Hall, Old National Bank, Wylie House, Brown County Arts Gallery and Lilly Library.

There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Atrium, 401 N. Morton St. Yelena Polyanskaya, a doctoral student in classical and jazz piano performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will entertain guests during the reception.

The exhibit will be on display Oct. 2, 2015 - Nov. 2, 2015. Exhibition hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings and the Farmers' Market.

ABOUT THE BLOOMINGTON ENTERTAINMENT AND ARTS DISTRICT (BEAD)

BEAD seeks to bring the business and creative sectors together to advance commerce and culture, build community and spur economic development. BEAD is a geographically defined, mixed-use cultural district in downtown Bloomington which capitalizes on local and regional assets that are specific to the cultural, economic and social issues of Bloomington. BEAD emphasizes the high concentration of creative assets and related activities to strengthen and enhance the overall economic development of the community and provides a connective link to a variety of incentives, programs and grants to benefit its major stakeholder groups and users: the community, visitors, the creative, cultural and entertainment sectors and small business.

BEAD's Atrium Exhibit program is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences.
