City Advises Sanitation Customers to Anticipate Trash Sticker Needs

The City of Bloomington Sanitation Division’s modernized sanitation plan will soon eliminate the need for households to purchase yellow trash stickers and green yard waste stickers to receive sanitation services. Delivery of new recycling and solid waste carts will begin in mid-September, and the City will begin transitioning neighborhoods into the new Sanitation model beginning October 2.

Until October 2, City Sanitation customers should continue to buy and use trash stickers. The Sanitation Division advises customers to estimate the quantity of yellow trash and green yard waste stickers that they anticipate needing in the weeks leading up to the modernized sanitation launch, with the goal of having no excess stickers once the new system is in place.

“We are really looking forward to the full implementation of modernized sanitation services. Our employees will be safer, the modernized system will be more efficient, recycling will be collected weekly, and stickers will be a thing of the past -- all great improvements for Bloomington sanitation services,” commented Mayor John Hamilton.

After the City implements the new modernized sanitation model, Sanitation customers can obtain refunds for any surplus of unused trash stickers. Customers with under $20 of unused trash stickers will be refunded cash, and requests over $20 will be issued a check or an electronic funds transfer (EFT). Customers will need to provide unused stickers at the time refunds are requested.

Refunds can be requested in one of three ways:

  • October 16-28: Refunds can be obtained at City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • October 28: City staff will issue refunds at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market between 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

  • All refunds requested after October 28 and until November 9, 2017 will be issued via check or electronic funds transfer. To obtain these refunds, customers will need to complete a form in-person at City Hall.

City Hall is located at 401 N. Morton Ave.
