Four Incidents of Offensive Vandalism Discovered Early Friday

Bloomington, Ind. - Four incidents of racially offensive vandalism including “KKK” and images of swastikas were discovered at three locations early this morning by residents and City of Bloomington (COB) employees. Each was painted over prior to 10:00 a.m. by COB Public Works employees. The locations include:

  • The East 10th Street underpass

  • Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington, 2120 N. Fee Lane

  • The intersection of College Mall and Sare Road

“Bloomington remains steadfast in its commitment to inclusivity. We are resolved to be a community that values each of its residents. It doesn’t matter where they were born, how long they have lived here, what god they choose to worship - or not worship - or the color of their skin, they belong here. Everyone is welcome, period.” commented Mayor John Hamilton.

If residents see vandalism in the form of offensive language at any time - 24 hours a day, seven days a week - they should immediately report it to the COB at 812-339-1444. A City employee will be dispatched to address the vandalism.
