Bloomington
, IN - Lisa Abbott, Director of the City of Bloomington's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department (HAND), announced today that applications are now available for Neighborhood Cleanup grants. The grants enable Bloomington neighborhoods to host a Neighborhood Cleanup event to remove litter, yard waste, tires, metal, furniture and other large items, and hazardous materials.

HAND provides trash removal resources, safety vests and some personnel while the neighborhood is required to recruit and organize volunteers.

All Bloomington neighborhoods are encouraged to apply. Each year HAND selects two neighborhood applicants to receive the grants. Applications and more information can be found online at [http://bloomington.in.gov/neighborhoods|832] or can be picked up at the HAND office in City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street, Suite 130.

Neighborhoods can choose to hold the Cleanup event on one of the following Saturdays: April 18, May 2, May 16, or June 13, 2009. Applications must be submitted to HAND by Monday, March 9, at 4:00 p.m.

For additional information, contact Jo Stong, Neighborhood Compliance Officer, at 349-3420 or stongj@bloomington.in.gov, or Vickie Provine, Program Manager, at 349-3420 or provinev@bloomington.in.gov.
