Be More Awards Will Recognize Outstanding Volunteers in the Community

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network and its partners invite Bloomington and Monroe County residents to the Be More Awards, a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. The ceremony will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Seventy-seven individuals and volunteer groups have been nominated for awards in 10 categories. Each award will be presented by a different community leader, including Mayor Mark Kruzan, IU-Bloomington Dean of Students Pete Goldsmith, the 2013 recipient of the Outstanding Black Male Leader of Tomorrow Award, Gabriel Jones and retired judge Viola Taliaferro.

Awards will be presented in the following categories: Be More Healthy, Be More Phenomenal (board member), Be More Involved (college student), Be More Energized (youth), Be More Collaborative (group or family), Be More Knowledgeable (education/literacy), Be More Creative (arts/culture), Be More Engaged (judges' choice), Be More Bloomington (overall excellence) and Be More Dedicated (lifetime of service).

The evening will feature the announcement of the award recipients along with great stories and inspirational photos about these incredible people and their extraordinary efforts to make our community the best it can be.

The Be More Awards are produced by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network and sponsored by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the IU Credit Union, the United Way of Monroe County, WTIU Public Television and the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District's Buskirk-Chumley Theater grant program.
