City Accepting Nominations for "Be More" Volunteer Awards

Bloomington, Ind. - Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that nominations are now being accepted for the Be More Awards, the community volunteer awards sponsored by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network.

"I enjoy the Be More Awards because I learn about people who are making amazing contributions to our community behind the scenes - often people that I would never have met otherwise," Kruzan said. "I hope that people will take this opportunity to nominate people they know who volunteer their time. We want to know about them and honor them."

The awards program, which is co-sponsored by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the IU Credit Union, United Way of Monroe County and WTIU Public Television, honors local volunteers for outstanding community service. Nominations may be submitted by members of the general public, community agencies or family members. Ten awards of $500 each will be granted in categories including recreation and fitness, health and wellness, arts, board and commission service, higher education, youth, education and literacy, environment, animal welfare and lifelong service. A general service award also will be given.

Nomination forms are available [online|/volunteer] and will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Feb. 7. The Be More Awards ceremony will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on April 1 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The event is free and open to the public.
