BLOOMINGTON, IN -- Regina Moore, Bloomington City Clerk, has announced that applications are now being accepted for the Bloomington Platinum Biking Task Force from City or County residents with an understanding of the issues surrounding bicycle transportation and recreation.

Recently created by the Bloomington Common Council, the Task Force will develop a plan to elevate Bloomington's Bicycle Friendly Community rating from a Bronze to a Platinum by 2016. The Task Force will acquire information and study the current state of bicycling in Bloomington by researching best practices and soliciting information from other communities, seeking community input, and coordinating efforts with existing agencies and departments whose activities affect bicycle use.

Preference will be given to those citizens with expertise in bicycle transportation, employers who encourage bicycling, health advocates who seek to improve community wellness, and individuals with expertise in environmental and sustainable practices.

Priority will be given to applications received by June 15, 2010, but applications are always welcomed.

City Boards and Commissions are citizen staffed and operated, and serve to advise the Common Council and the Administration on issues affecting Bloomington.

Boards and Commissions range from the arts to the environment to human rights. Qualifications require residence within the corporation limits of the city for most positions and specific interest in the work of the Board or Commission.

A complete list and description of Boards and Commissions, in addition to application materials may be found at [www.bloomington.in.gov/clerk|www.bloomington.in.gov/clerk]. Information and applications also are available at the City Clerk's Office in Showers City Hall at 401 N. Morton.
