City Commission, Monroe County Circles Partner For Poverty Simulation

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Commission and the Monroe County Circles Initiative have partnered to sponsor a community poverty simulation on Monday, Jan. 25, from 6-9 p.m. at the Banneker Community Center, 930 W. 7 Street.

Participants in the role-playing exercise will be assigned scenarios they will have to play out, including arranging for meals, transportation and other essential services. They will be responsible for meeting their basic needs on a minimal budget, simulating a month of real-life issues in only 3 hours. The goal is to enhance awareness of the daily challenges faced by low-income individuals and families in Bloomington.

Monroe County Circles™ is an organization dedicated to helping low-income individuals build resources and transition out of poverty by creating relationships across race and class lines and working to break down systemic barriers to self-sufficiency. It is part of the nationwide Circles™ campaign, sponsored locally by the South Central Community Action Program. The City of Bloomington's Community and Family Resources Commission is proud to partner with such an effective group of citizens working to end poverty within the community.

To participate, please RSVP to Genese Parker by noon on Monday, Jan. 25, at genese@insccap.org or at 339-3447.
