City of Bloomington Animal Shelter Receives Grant from Lil BUB's BIG Fund for the ASPCA

Bloomington, Ind. - Bloomington's most famous cat, Lil BUB, has joined forces with the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) to help homeless pets across the country, including those at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter. The Shelter received a grant of $2,500 from Lil BUB's BIG FUND for the ASPCA to provide medical care for special needs cats.

With more than 1,000,000 Facebook fans and 515,000 Instagram followers, her own talk show, a major book deal, an award-winning documentary film and a network television special, Lil BUB is one of the most famous and recognizable cats in the world. In February, Lil BUB and her owner, Mike Bridavsky, announced the creation of Lil BUB's BIG Fund for the ASPCA. Administered by the ASPCA, the fund is designed to distribute grants to animal-welfare organizations supporting the adoption of cats that are in need of special care or extra help. Special care includes conditions such as physical deformities, birth defects, developmental disabilities, mobility impairments, blindness, deafness, permanent diseases, chronic illness, old age or wounds from disasters, accidents or abuse.

The Shelter applied for and recently received a grant of $2,500 from this fund. Funds will be used for surgeries, wound care and medications for sick and injured cats in the Shelter's care with the ultimate goal of making the cats ready for adoption.

"We are so grateful to Lil BUB and the ASPCA for this grant opportunity. These funds will allow us to meet the medical needs of cats in our care that are above and beyond what our normal budget will allow," said Laurie Ringquist, Director of Animal Care and Control.
