City of Bloomington Civil Streets Program Calls for Artists

Bloomington, Ind. -- The City of Bloomington's Civil Streets campaign is seeking local artists, artist teams, and community organizations to design and paint murals on traffic signal boxes. Proposed mural designs should reflect the Civil Street's campaign message that "courtesy is contagious" and should incorporate the Civil Streets Campaign logo in some fashion.

Proposals should include a color rendering of the artwork proposed, information on the artist, artist team or organization who will be creating the artwork, and an itemized budget including materials and artist honoraria. The Civil Streets campaign will reimburse up to $250 per accepted proposal. The artist will be required to prime, paint, and seal with metal-appropriate paint products. Proposals are due to sustain@bloomington.in.gov by midnight on August 10, 2014. Projects must be completed by October 15, 2014.

The Civil Streets campaign was launched by the City of Bloomington in the Fall of 2013. The purpose of the effort is to reduce unsafe behaviors, conflicts, frustrations, and crashes among Bloomington's road users including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, skateboarders, motor scooter drivers, and anyone else who has a right to use city roads. More information on the campaign and the Civil Streets logo are both located at http://bloomington.in.gov/civilstreets.
