Diversity Theatre Presents 2009 MOSAIC Diversity Film Festival At City Hall

Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department (CFRD) invites the public to attend the 2009 MOSAIC Diversity Film Festival on Saturday, Apr. 4, and Saturday, Apr. 11, in the Atrium at City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street.

The festival marks the 25th anniversary of Diversity Theatre, a local group whose mission is to promote equality and create awareness of discrimination issues.MOSAIC consists of various short films for adults and children addressing the issues of disability, aging, race, and ethnicity, and films will be shown continuously each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.

A special showing of the feature film The Cats of Mirikitani also will take place on April 4 at 8 p.m.at the Cinemat. There is a $3.00 admission charge at this venue only.

Diversity Theatre attempts to dispel myths about minority groups, promotes full participation in society and serves as a catalyst for change. Founded in 1984 by a group of individuals with disabilities, the company uses theatre as a vehicle for education about disability issues. Originally known as Handicapped Improvisational Theatre, the group changed its name in 1987 and expanded its mission to address other social and minority issues. Funds are generated by the company through grants, donations, and performance fees.
