New Downtown Specialist To Enhance City’s Vibrant District

, IN - Continuing his pledge to keep downtown Bloomington beautiful, Mayor Mark Kruzan has announced the hiring of Susan Chambers to replace John Hartman as City of Bloomington Downtown [City of Bloomington Downtown Specialist Susan Chambers|image:4551,right]Specialist. Chambers previously served as manager for the City Custodial crew for 10 years and will now be the eyes and ears of the Downtown and its condition, working with business owners, residents and visitors to enhance its distinct character.

"Susan not only will maintain the cleanliness of downtown, she also will maintain its character and identity," Kruzan said. "We are proud to have Susan join the team, and she will play an integral role as we strategically position as a destination city."Bloomington

The downtown spans between a perimeter of Fourth to Seventh Streets and to , and Chambers will attend monthly meetings with stakeholders in this area to listen and address concerns and comments. The position also is responsible for litter removal, working with merchants on graffiti eradication, ensuring signal poles and switch boxes are free of attachments, monitoring People's Park, power washing alleys and garages, and generally taking care of the downtown.Indiana AvenueRogers Street

Hartman, now a City Parking Enforcement Officer, was the first City employee to hold the position and the impact of his work has been considerable in helping to maintain the vibrancy of the area.

"The Public Works Department is grateful to John Hartman for the impact he had as Downtown Specialist, and we are thrilled to have Susan on board to continue that work" said Susie Johnson, Director of Public Works.
