Description

The Telecommunications Council has been responsible for reviewing and evaluating the performance of city cable franchise agreements. In 2006 the State of Indiana enacted statewide legislation removing video service franchise authority from local governments. (Indiana Code §8-1-34-16). In 2011 the State of Indiana passed additional legislation (Indiana Code §8-1-34-16(a)(2)(C-D) specifically stripping local units of government from establishing, funding or designating entities (like the Telecommunications Council) to oversee video service providers. The Telecommunications Council has not met since 2013.
