Description

PURPOSE:
The Citizens Redistricting Advisory Commission (CRAC) is an independent, politically balanced body whose purpose is to recommend new boundaries that divide the city into six council districts when redistricting is required.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Individuals who live in the City of Bloomington will make up the five-member commission. The Commission will be divided by political affiliation: two democrats, two republicans and one independent. Please note: Two members of the Commission will be full-time students at Indiana University - Bloomington: one democrat & one republican.

DUTIES:
In pursuit of its objective, the Commission will operate with transparency. Data used to draw maps will be made publicly available, public comments will be gathered and voters will be able to submit their own maps to the Commission online.

TIME COMMITMENT:
2 hours per month

COMPENSATION:
Each member does not receive compensation for their service.

Meeting Schedule

The commission will meet at least every other month until it disbands. The commission reforms at the beginning of the year following each decennial United States Census and also reforms in the event the city is required, due to annexation or other legal procedures, to redraw council-district lines outside of this period.
