Get ready to roll up your sleeves and help make downtown Bloomington shine ahead of Indiana University’s Commencement weekend! The City of Bloomington is calling for volunteers to join the Downtown Community Cleanup Day on Monday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This fun and impactful event will focus on sprucing up downtown by picking up litter, pulling weeds, and enhancing the beauty of public spaces for both residents and visitors.
What to expect:
- Team Up with the Mayor: Work alongside Mayor Kerry Thomson and City staff as part of this community-wide effort to make Bloomington sparkle.
- All Tools Provided: The City will supply everything you need to participate—just bring your energy and enthusiasm!
- Led by Brighten Bloomington Crews: You’ll be guided by City staff and the dedicated Brighten Bloomington teams, part of a partnership with Centerstone Job Placement, who work year-round to beautify Bloomington.
The event schedule is as follows:
- 9 a.m. – Meet at Meet at Waldron Hill Buskirk Park (331 S Washington St, behind the police station) for opening remarks by Mayor Kerry Thomson
- 9:30 a.m. – Teams disperse to assigned cleanup zones
- 12:30 p.m. – Cleanup activities wrap up. Volunteers head back to Waldron Hill Buskirk Park for FREE LUNCH.
Whether you're an individual, family, local business, or community group, everyone is welcome to join in this day of service and fun! Please register by filling out this form. The registration form will close at noon on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Our gratitude to Old National Bank and Lennie's Brewpub for providing lunch for our volunteers, and to Forthphaze Technology, the Monroe County Apartment Association, and Soma Coffeehouse & Juice Bar for providing morning coffee.
