City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #175364

Blocked Street:

Other: This house was sold and purchased by new owners in 2016. Since then the number of vehicles parked on the street has grown to as many as 7 over time. For the last 8 months, one of the vehicles has had 2 flat tires and has not moved. There have been many times (especially during snowy winter days) where the street becomes hard to navigate especially with two way traffic. Is there any ordinance that recommends the number of cars one can park in front of their house? Can an abandoned car remain on the streets for months on end? Perhaps the number of cars is related to the number of families residing at this home; is there a limit to the number of families that may be co-housing? How can this be resolved? Aside from the driving safety issues, it is a visual blight on our neighborhood and a very unfortunate welcome to our lovely neighborhood.

Parking will check out the car with flat tires, or any vehicles that appear to be abandoned. There are no regulations as to how many cars family can have as long as they are not stored on the street without using them. As for the number of people in a home, please contact the City HAND department (housing and neighborhood development) they can help with that. I will send a Parking Officer to check out the car with flat tires.
