City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #178543

City Performance:

Other: The home that I rent had a city rental inspection conducted in November. I was home and neither did the inspector inspect everything that is listed on the pre-inspection addendum nor did they speak with me. There are a few issues that I would have pointed out if given the opportunity. Most notably, as listed in HAND's documentation, it states that All required openable windows shall be capable of remaining open on their own hardware. That is not the case in this home and that was not inspected. Can someone please explain to me what the procedure is for inspections? There are other issues as well that I had erroneously assumed would have been inspected since they are on the list of what is required of a rental property to have in good order. These are not issues that are perhaps directly impacting me at the moment but I do feel strongly that the house should be in actual full compliance so as to protect future renters. Property owners who rent their property should be held fully accountable to what the ordinances stipulate. Is it because of COVID that the inspector spent less than five minutes "inspecting" the entire house? Thank you.
