Email: Commissioner at Transportation Commission meeting on 9/28/2026 requested analysis of street lighting at the intersection of E Covenanter Dr and College Mall Rd. They complained that street lighting on the west side of the intersection is insufficient for safe pedestrian utilization of the intersection. Drivers heading north on College Mall turning left onto Covenanter, and drivers headed east from Covenanter turning right onto College Mall have a difficult time seeing pedestrians in the crosswalk at night or in low-light conditions. Currently there is a street light on the north east corner of the intersection (Location 965 S College Mall Rd, Bloomington, IN 47401 (39.1553, -86.4976)); however, the light does not appear like it was installed to illuminate the corner of the crosswalk in question. The existing light is not impacted by overgrown vegetation. In terms of follow up on this item, if there is any action staff can take on it, I would like to document staff response and the process via uReport and a staff report at a future commission meeting.

The College Mall Rd. and Covenanter Dr. intersection has been a reoccurring item on the Commission's agenda starting in November 2025 and appearing multiple times this year. At this time it is not scheduled for another appearance (so there is no extra urgency to this request), but if that changes, it would be educational for the Commission to report on the progress/status of this specific request about street lighting.
