We had a water damaged appartement and after 5 long days of staying in it we got moved to another unit. We were told pest control came for 2-3 cockroaches in the sink. We moved in and in the evening turns out it’s a whole infestation. They came from the dishwasher which was flooded and full of water in the back with many cockroaches there. There are babies which indicates a clear infestation and that they reproduce fast. They did not just stay in kitchen but started running everywhere. In the bathroom, in both bedrooms, in the hallway and living room. We had to move out in the middle of the night to our old water damaged unit at 1am. We received no confirmations that pest control has been conducted and that the situation was fixed before the unit could be rented to us. The only thing signing at this is the paper traps in the appartement (there is 4 of them). The cockroaches appeared in the evening but there was still daylight (5-6pm) which indicates a bigger colony than initial 2-3 cockroaches as we were told. Even with the light on at 10pm they were out in the kitchen and in other rooms too until midnight, moment when we started to pack to leave for the night.

The property needs to be inspected by a City official and repaired or condemned. Under Bloomington Municipal Code Chapter 17.16, a building is considered unsafe if it is: Structurally Impaired: Posing a danger to persons or neighboring property. Unsanitary: Lacking adequate ventilation, light, or sanitation to protect health. Observing this property over the last 18 months, there has been no change in this property, except that the condition is getting worse. Locals state the home has been in derelict conditions for many years. Damaged roof. A tarp does not constitute a roof. There is no ventilation in the house or working exhausts. Windows do not open/close. No heating or cooling in the structure. Dangerous electrical resulting in the occasional use of a small light. No plumbing in the structure. Resident carries buckets of water from nearby and can be seen washing his hair and body outside of his front porch. No functional bathroom inside the home. Occupant cannot flush waste properly. The entire place appears to be a fire hazard. Evidence of structural fire damage that may also impact the electrical and plumbing concerns. Overgrowth vegetation and weeds. Inoperable vehicles in front and behind the unsafe structure. The severe neglect of this property is diminishing the quality of life for the community and hindering its overall desirability. The dilapidated condition of the property presents a substantial public eyesore and poses a detriment to the neighborhood character. Please take action to keep Bloomington beautiful and avoid causing a serious decline in neighborhood standards for the entire City of Bloomington.

the gutter above my front door has been hanging off the building for weeks and my landlord has yet to fix it. it has been dropping nails and causes water to flood my entrance. the issue continues to worsen each day. it’s a large gutter and i’m afraid it could fall and hurt myself or my neighbors.

Home is on double lot, was in tough shape inside and out; took two years to sell due to condition (initial asking 450,000 sold at 170,600) but finally sold a few months ago. Seller moved out; Neighbors have no info on who bought it but assume investors who will tear down to build 2 new homes. We are writing on behalf of all surrounding neighbors. City did arrange for lawn to finally be mowed (thank you!) but there are other more serious issues: 1. A backyard in ground pool no longer has required fencing in yard and pool cover has come off, water is green/moldy. No fencing hazard for wandering children playing, animals but we are concerned about mosquitoes, etc. 2. All sorts of large pieces of siding are flapping all day long in the wind. In storms the sound can be heard houses away and we all are waiting for the day they rip off and come flying down! 3. A fox family has nested in home - literally underneath 1010 from several entries all around (may be inside?) There are five in total (mom with 4 kits - all now full size) They play around pool area and romp in yard which is lovely to watch but now when it means they are leaving rabbit, bird, animal carcasses all over this property and in our yards. Wildlife told us that any neighbor can pay for trapping them as they won't move them. Seriously - all of us?! Fox family are now going after neighborhood cats, and having growling matches with dogs being walked, especially in the evening. Again, they are absolutely beautiful to watch but not the right habitat. Our daily lives are affected by their habitat next door. No owner name to contact for any of us to ask them to clean up carcasses which also now cause more insect issues - ticks, fleas, mosquito, flies in addition to moldy pool water. Some of us have started piling carcasses up in one place on property. The irony here is that the original owner was Bruce Jennings ... who worked in HAND Dept. for many years before passing away. :-( Thanks for anything you can do. Suggestion to add: New owners would be smart to reach out to all on the street to introduce themselves and help us learn more about their plans. We have lived here forty years; this block is a tight knit, close group of caring neighbors who are reasonable and look forward to new plans for 1010! Thank you. (we have a lot of photos if that is helpful but the narrative seems to sum it up)

Flickering outdoor lights from raccoon and water damage. Large holes in roof. Excessive growth, fabric curtains in front porch make this house a hazard. There is an open report on this home for over 200 days with Mike Arnold. Nothing has been find and the neighborhood is aware of the city report having been filed. This house is a violation of many city codes and nothing is being done.
