I am writing to urge you to extend the amount of time between the issuance of a parking ticket and the date on which the price of that ticket doubles. I realize I am lucky to have a secure job associated with a decent wage that allows me to occasionally absorb the cost of a parking ticket, for those rare times when I accidentally exceed my expected amount of time downtown. However, it was not so long ago, when I was a graduate student, that I truly lived paycheck-to-paycheck, and had a lot of difficulty making it through the second half of the month. A $20 parking ticket which doubles in price within 10 days would have been a very difficult expense to manage. And it should be recognized that even those of us who diligently pay our meters occasionally run into difficulties that cause us to run over. At the same time, we often overpay for the meter ($$ for which we are never reimbursed). In any event, a parking ticket that doubles in price within 10 days puts an undue burden on those residents of Bloomington who are in a challenging financial situation. Several parking meters on 6th St in front of Grazie are missing their parking app zone numbers, making it impossible to park using the mobile app. The green corner of the zone sticker is visible in the attached photo.

Residents at 814 S. Eastside Drive routinely park on their lawn to fit 4 to 5 vehicles in the driveway. There are 2 cars parked on the lawn.

Today I parked in spot 115B on the east side of the square. I swiped my card several times, and it kept saying "transaction cancelled". I had just used my debit card at the store with no issues. I dug through the car for change, and was able to pay with change with no issues. But the meter refused to accept my card. I have never had a problem before, and it was very strange.

I tried to call the number listed for reporting parking meter issues and some guy just said hello then hung up on me after asking who I was trying to reach then I tried again and nobody answer. Anyway, twice in the past month I put in $.25 (was dimes and nickels, not quarters, and yes I counted correctly) and it didn't give me the full 15 minutes. Also, the one time I tried my IUCU debit/credit card it wouldn't take it. I don't want to get a ticket for not being able to use a card if that is all I have or for putting in the correct amount of money and not being given the full amount of time. Not sure why either is happening but both are very problematic. Thank you.

I REPORTED A MALFUNCTIONING PARKING METER AT ZONE7683, METER#SCOL107A. I DEPOSITED $2.00 IN THE METER AND IT DID NOT CREDIT ME ANY TIME AT ALL. I MOVED TO A DIFFERENT SPACE, TO AVOID GETTING A TICKET, AND HAPPENED TO RUN INTO THE METER LADY WHO GAVE ME THE NUMBER TO CALL TO REPORT THE METER. A METER TECH CAME RIGHT AWAY, AND REPAIRED THE METER, BUT COULD NOT REFUND MY $2.00. I UNDERSTAND THINGS BREAK, BUT IF I HAD NOT NOTICED THE MALFUNCTION, I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A TICKET. IF I HAD NOT REPORTED IT SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE GOTTEN A TICKET. SO I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY BACK. QUARTERS WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE.

I rec'd a parking ticket today and I want you to know why. I am not appealing it. First time users are at a loss when using the credit card. there should be easy to follow prompts on the screen, and posted somewhere close instructions as to how to use it. I thought I had 3 hrs, turned out I didn't. Procedures should be clear enough that this doesn't happen.
