Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

The city has come out and measured several times for a culvert to be installed in front of my driveway. The problem is that the street is higher than my driveway and this house is at the bottom of a hill. When it rains all the debris from the street and houses above me come into my driveway. There is so much water that my basement can flood and the water level can easily reach several feet deep. I have at the moment blocks of stones in front of my driveway so that the debris and water keeps going down Mitchel street instead of blocking the small drainage grates that are in driveway.
Sincerely, Philippe Garnier

On the south side of Winslow at the west side of Piccadilly there has been progressive erosion where the drain pipe goes under Piccadilly. Whenever we get a strong rain for five or ten minutes the ditch backs up on the east side of Piccadilly and does not flow freely under the road. The erosion mentioned has noticeably progressed this year and if left unabated the road will eventually be at risk of breaking at its edge. Also, be aware that the heavy rains flood the east side ditch and form a pool over the sidewalk which also spills out onto Winslow. We can see this from our home. I had a couple of pictures of this to send you, but you only gave me the ability to send one. If you'd like them, please let me know by email. Thank you!

This is my property. The culvert in the utility easement on the side of my house is flooded, causing my side yard, back yard, and garage to flood. The inlet pipe appears to be plugged. The culvert is full of road sand and vegetation, which may be the issue. There is a fence around the side yard, but there is an 11 foot gate to allow entry. Any questions, please feel free to call me. Thank you.

Bicycling on Howe, I was struck by the fact that both storm sewer grates appear to be obstructed by yard waste, which will become an issue when we get our spring rains before the thaw.
I suspect that this is not an isolated experience.

The stormwater grates at West Fourth and Fairview literally had small bushes growing in the sediment. I cleaned them again today-but why oh why can't these be part of regular maintenance? When they are blocked, which is most of the time, the water gets 6-8 inches deep at the alley near my house. I brought this to council last year when the city voted to raise fees and was promised by the director (Vic?) that this would be remedied. I have yet to see a clean up schedule or to see a worker ever clean these grates or clean the streets. I'm sick of it. There seems to be no dearth of resources for curbs and flower boxes and traffic restriction work. Why can't the city maintain the streets and storm sewers in a systematic fashion? What is the schedule for cleaning?

Hello,
My home sits at the bottom of an incline where the water in the neighborhood drains onto our driveway and property. Every time it rains the water causes erosion on the property and flooding to our garage and yard.
Not only is the un-directed water effecting us, but is also causing the road to erode where water is standing on the asphalt. As well as eroding neighbors propertys and driveway, which then end up in front of our home puddled in the street,(water, gravel, soil).
A solution could be installing curbs and catchment drains in the surrounding area to better direct the water from causing more damage to ours and neighboring properties.
Please feel free to call, email, or text. I am happy to send additional photos of some of the damage that has occurred.
Thank You
