Blocked Sidewalk
354 E Melrose AVE
- Case Date:
- 8/14/2026
Hole in sidewalk on 8th street, close to corner of Maple. Gigabit contractors made this hole and never came back to fix it after they cut through our sewer line. Someone is going to trip and fall as a result of this hole on sidewalk.
The Relato constantly has contractors parking on the bike path. This morning they had a van blocking travel, and this evening they had a van blocking the entire path. I talked with them today and they said it would "only" be 30 minutes. I shared some very unkind words with them, and after that, I called parking enforcement. It is unacceptable for a vehicle to be here period. This is not their space; it belongs to the public. It creates an unsafe situation where bikes and pedestrians have to divert out into traffic. I would like them to stop doing this. They are not being good neighbors. Please have a code enforcement officer talk with them so that they know the city is serious, and fine them if this continues.
Overgrown greenery has been allowed to take over sidewalk
Blocked fire hydrant! This has been reported several times and comes back 'resolved', but I am not sure how it was resolved. The Cassady work truck parks there everyday and overnight EXCEPT ~7-4 M-F when it is driven to work. It is directly in front of the hydrant and parked the wrong way. This has been ongoing for at least a year, probably much longer.
On the west side of Madison st between 2nd and Howe there is shrubbery blocking the sidewalk.
This neighbor has been parking on the sidewalk for the past two weeks. This is a family neighborhood where everyone uses the sidewalk, including many children and animals. It is not safe to force them to walk in the road. I also imagine it poses a driving hazard for those needing to back up on either side. School starts next week and the kids in the neighborhood will need the sidewalk to walk to the bus. I left a friendly note as I passed by, but she continues to do so.
The path between Park on Morton apartments (Georgia Ave) and College Ave just south of the railroad tracks is almost completely blocked by vegetation and mud. When they cleaned up the erosion control from the recent construction just south of it, they displaced even more mud onto the path. There is also mud further upstream from longer-term erosion. The vegetation is dense across the whole path. This is a repeat of ureport #212168, which was closed because HAND couldn't think of what to do about it. *someone* has to be able to maintain this path, or you need to *escalate it beyond department heads*. it is completely unacceptable that we will simply give up on this valuable pedestrian infrastructure after all of the work was already done to construct it in the first place! This is a public ROW for pedestrians and as such it is *MORE VALUABLE* than the streets that y'all spend millions of dollars on every single year. Failure is not an option.
Table set up in the middle of the sidewalk, blocking sidewalk accessibility
