This is the 2nd time I’m reaching out about a nuisance light. I reached out on 06/16/26 about a nuisance light on the neighboring houses property. That case number is #211729. The case still just says open. The house is currently vacant. There is a private light pole on the property that is so bright it illuminates my backyard plus my bedroom windows. Because of this I I am having a lot of difficulty sleeping. I don’t mean to sound like that person but I am a first responder that spends a lot of time awake through the night so when I’m at home, my sleep is very important to me. Also because of this light, my family and I are no longer able to sit out on our back porch in the evenings due to being blinded by this light. I did send one image and my first complaint. It shows where the light is in comparison to my back yard. I will send another picture with this complaint. The picture with this complaint is my face illuminated from the light as I sit on my back porch in the evening. If need be I have many more pictures I would be glad to send. There is a light on the property that neighbors my house that violates the light trespass laws. It sits high on a pole in their back yard and subsequently illuminates my backyard as well as both bedrooms in my house. This light is extremely bright and because of this we have had trouble sleeping due to the light coming in to our bedroom. Also because of this light we have not been able to enjoy sitting on our back porch in the evenings due to the light shining directly in to our eyes. I’ve also talked to the neighbor on the other side of the house and she is having issues as well with the light shining on her property. The property that owns the light is currently vacant. I’d like for something to be done about this as it has become a major nuisance to my household.

There is an old light pole half way along the alley with a flood light high up that glares light across several lots and shines into my house and porch (748 S. Morton St.). This is not a Duke Energy pole. It is only identifiable by a number 4, about to fall off, and an inspection medallion dated 2003. The pole right at Morton, to which it is connected, says it is owned by Public Service Co. of Indiana, pole number punched into metal plaque 1627-709 and maybe also punched notches for Customer and Owned. An inspection medallion that says OSMOSE insp. 2018. D. This simplest way to end the light leakage would be to remove the light. If properly shielded to prevent the light leakage of course that would be okay too. I have photos, but I can't figure out how to add the file to this UReport. If you could send me an email address I can send the photos as a Word file. I would be glad to meet someone from the city and show them the source of the problem. The bike store recently put up a super bright orange neon light in the window facing Grant Street that says Velotric. It lights up the apartments across the street all night long. Can they turn it off at night or move it to another window? This is a neighborhood not a mall. They are the only busines in the area.

I contacted the property manager and she said that this light could not be shielded or dimmed or adjusted for "safety". I would like to see if this is something that would constitute a light violation for the city so that it could be adjusted. I made a previous request about this light due to it shining into our bedroom window after a tree was cut down which had been blocking much of the light. Is there something that could be done?

gas station at union & tenth has outward facing LED flood lights that are probably 50x more powerful for light polution than code allows.

I am a resident assistant in Eigenmann Hall right across the street from this convenience store. In the past there (just two months ago) there weren’t any issues with their lights. However, right before students winter break the convenience store installed these new bright white lights. These light shine into my room, making it hard to sleep at night, in addition, while driving and walking it makes it difficult and distracting to drive and cross streets on the roads when the white lights are shining in your eyes. Similar to white high-beams on an interstate highway shining in your eyes in the dark, that is what these remind me of. These lights make it very difficult to sleep in my room, operate along these roads, and walk as I did before (especially now that it gets darker in the day sooner). I’ve had complaints from residents on lower floors of Eigenmann Hall about these lights as they begin returning to the building.
