There appears to be a broken water main because water has been rising to the surface on my property the past 5 days. My front north sidewalk (photo attached), east sidewalk, and south concrete garage floor have been soaked for the past 5 days. My basement is dry and no pipes are leaking in my house. Small (~7" diameter) metal access cover (valve down there?) labeled "Water" in the middle of 10th street on the east side of the intersection with Dunn is damaged, completely missing the central portion of the lid and creating a hazard if someone steps in it or a small animal falls in. There is also another one with nearly an identical problem (or completely missing) about 50 feet west at the intersection of 10th and a funny little road named "Prow".

Water Utility Billing Problems

Hello - We are submitting a complaint against the City of Bloomington Utilities for the following reasons: 1. We were notified in February 2024 of a 40 g/h increase in our flow, while we were out of the state on vacation, via a door tag, not a notice to our email or even a phone call, which are on our account, a door tag. 2. We have called Customer Support three times to get this resolved, as we have not identified a leak inside the house nor outside the house between the reader and the house, which we utilized Aim To Please as our contractor to check everything in the house. 3. The number of times we were told to check our toilets and got brushed off was disrespectful and patronizing, as we utilized Aim to Please to check the toilets via a Dye test and there was no dye leakage after 20 minutes in any toilet. 4. Our March (5), April (4), May (7), and June (4), and July (5) are higher than all the months prior a full year to date. However, it's not a constant leak, they are sporadic. I.e. - while I was putting my kids to bed at 9pm on Friday, June 14th, there was a spike of 400 g/h for under an hour and then it went back down. There was nothing running in terms of faucets or outside spigots. 5. Even with all of our work on our end, and the conversations with CBU Customer Support, the fact that CBU won't consider that we have a malfunctioning reader, is simply astounding. To not even consider the possibility of it, and have a denialist mentality does not, to me, show customer support or attention. We would appreciate a review and investigation of our reader and our usage reports to better understand these spikes. Additionally, we would appreciate a review of our billing because we are now paying quite a bit more for water than we did for the first two years of our ownership of this house. As can be seen in the photo there are three dry creek beds (swales) feeding the area where the runoff water is pooling during a heavy rain fall. Cause of the pooling is the drain through a small ridge is eroded and clogged up. City needs to remedy this issue.

SE corner of lot just west of alley and close to the sidewalk there is a medium-sized, water-meter pit that is uncovered. Lid is not around, apparently. Dangerous trip hazard at night, and animals could fall in.

Right in the middle of the intersection of 7th/Grant is a metal plate that is damaged and dangerous. It is not as big as a sewer manhole or even a water-meter cover. It is about 7" in diameter and appears to have been painted bright blue, but the entire center of the plate is missing, leaving a hole that one could step into and twist an ankle or a small animal could fall in there and not be able to escape. We called the City Streets department about this awhile back and made a verbal report, but nothing has been done about this. That was probably a month ago.

Illegal Dumping in Drainage Easement and Common Conservation areas in Gentry South- Course construction sand (over 100 square feet and up to 10" deep) plus tree brush and other mulched woody material, large insect ridden sawed cut logs (including 47" logs), small rock and trash items have been dumped into the drainage easement area behind my house. The area that serves to hold flood water is being filled in, invasives are taking hold where the sand is, and the large debris is damaging trees. I know the area was free from this for at least 6 years prior, even during record water flow. The first occurrence was in early April 2020 and happened again the next year during early April 2021. These dumps are sudden. It was free of more sand at the end of March. Then, a week later there was suddenly a large dump of sand again. I was quoted $4,000 to remove the first dump of sand. Additionally, someone has dumped what looks like yard mulch/waste twice in this neighborhood’s Common Area/Conservation Easement.
