Traffic Related Complaints

1561 S Renwick BLVD

Case Date:
12/26/2016

Is it possible to install one of the temp speed signs on Renwick Blvd? Residents in the neighborhood routinely drive over 40 mph and there are many children and pedestrians on the road throughout day. Also, the speed limit sign before you reach East Moores on Renwick is blocked by a tree.

Sidewalk Requests

1550 East Rogers Road

Case Date:
7/20/2018

Thank you in advance for reading my inquiry. I would like to suggest a sidewalk due to a safety concern that effects children and disabled persons. Referring to the intersection at E Rogers Road and the Stands Drive. There is no sidewalk along this street connecting the stands road sidewalk to the crosswalk at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill (i.e., the area on the south side of E Rogers Road). Moreover, the sidewalk on the other side of the street is completely inaccessible for those with impaired motor function or wheelchairs (there is a large hill with steps only and no ramp). There are two major concerns here: (1) there is no possible way for a disabled person with a wheelchair to travel on E Rogers road (from the roundabout at the bottom of the hill up to the stands drive). (2) There is no way for families and children to safely walk to Child's elementary from this location (the Stands dr). Given that E Rogers road is a busy street with limited visibility for drivers and no crosswalk exists at the intersection of the Stands drive and E Rogers Road, it is extremely dangerous for children and families that wish to walk their children to the designated elementary school - Child's Elementary. This is the only direct walking path to Child's Elementary for all of the constituents that leave in the Stands neighborhood. There is no sidewalk on the south side of E Rogers Rd to connect the Stands Dr with the crosswalk at the bottom of the hill at the roundabout. Several constituents have expressed a safety concern. I also witnessed one woman and child almost get hit by a car at this busy intersection as they attempted to cross the street. I'd be happy to answer any additional questions. Thank you for reviewing my request.

Traffic Related Complaints

1525 E 7th St, Bloomington, IN 47405, USA

Case Date:
9/21/2022

Ever since the city created the bike lane on east seventh street between Walnut and the University the street has become a drag strip. Stop signs were taken away and people are traveling at excessive speeds. The condition has become exacerbated by an increase flow of bike traffic at various times of day. A person traveling north on Lincoln to safely cross must now watch the high speed vehicle traffic, the pedestrian traffic as well as the bike traffic. Visually it is a very difficult task to take in all of the information at the same time and the problem is that it is difficult to take in the bike lane when you are looking across the street at the pedestrian and high speed traffic. Bikers heading east come over the hill from Walnut and accelerate into the intersection. The curbs are extremely high and one cannot enter seventh street from Grant heading west without turning into the oncoming traffic lane or hitting the curb and damaging tires. On Monday I approached Seventh and Lincoln from the south around five o’clock pm. There was so much activity I missed a biker traveling west. I missed the person because there was simply too much to watch. Yesterday I made the decision to stop crossing Seventh St altogether because it was just too dangerous. I took a route that brought me from the west into the intersection. The city has now placed crosswalks without any warning signs of change all around the university and now pedestrians are no longer waiting for traffic to clear before attempting to cross and are now entering the crosswalks into the traffic flowing east and west with the expectation that it will stop, effectively a stop without a stop time. As I approached from the west to turn north onto Lincoln the east and westbound traffic had completely stopped for the cross walkers. Five persons on scooters zoomed into the intersection from south Lincoln and crossed through the stopped traffic. A six scooter, a straggler followed, suit entering right at the point when it had appeared to have cleared. These people should have been governed like the rest of cross traffic but instead acted effectively as pedestrians. Obviously no one was looking for them and they were traveling at a speed closer to a car than a pedestrian or biker. A dangerous situation has now been worsened by an intervention. We have spoken to the police officers in the neighborhood and obviously they cannot conceivably be there to do the work that traffic sign regulation had accomplished effectively for years. I can no longer move directly in my neighborhood because it is simply too dangerous. I am going out of my way to avoid the dangers and still cannot do that safely because of the chaos. We are going to see a scooter death or a bicyclist death if something is not done to prevent it. At least the City will be on notice when the lawsuit follows.

The corner of Moores Pike and Claris currently has flashing Yellow lights to help pedestrians cross Moores Pike. Drivers view yellow lights as a call to speed up not Stop. I walk there frequently but cars seldom slow or stop Sometimes the cars speed up, either to beat the light or to run over me. Perhaps it would help to change the lights to red which means Stop. Or install a regular stop light. Also, at the Southeast corner of Hillside Dr and College Mall Rd. The crossing light turns on when the vehicles turn right from Sare Rd onto Hillside Dr. This is very dangerous for the pedestrian since the corner is not visible to the cars turning right. Thank you Carol Reimers A concerned pedestrian

Trash

1510 W Allen ST

Case Date:
7/15/2022

An anonymous complainant alerted the Solid Waste District about "illegal dumping" of ash wood, as well as concrete and trash at this location. We did a quick inspection and found wood and other materials piled on the ground at the property. Additionally there is a trailer that appears to contain household waste, and there is trash around one of the buildings (on Allen Street side). Feel free to contact me if you need additional information!

I apologize..I'm not sure I picked the right category. I would like to request a crosswalk at 11th and Walnut..across walnut. The bus stops there and let's large groups of students off that then cross, going west. After dark, I'm worried someone will get hit especially. Thanks in advance. Susan Hingle
