The new ped x-walk near Smith Rd and Hwy 45 seems to go off when no one is around. also, from clear to blinking red means about to turn red. but once red, it then goes to blinking red. what does that mean? can i do then, or do i need to wait until the blinking stops. signage is unclear on the meaning of the signals.

I sent this on February 20th, and haven't heard from anyone.  Previous case: #166355 We are writing to you again because of two more accidents at this same corner (14th Street and Walnut Street).  Danna Workman was assigned to this on October 13, 2018, then she assigned it to Adam Wason, who then assigned it to Terri Porter; however, we have been reporting this problem corner to the City for many years.  On February 5, 2018 we heard from Andrew Cibor, Transportation and Traffic Engineer, who encouraged us to submit comments via a mapping tool.  We submitted our comments on February 6, 2018, but as of yet have heard nothing. On December 20, 2018 we wrote to you asking for a few traffic signs from 2nd Street to 17th Street on the Walnut corridor, but nothing has been done, and we have not received a response. One of the last accidents hit our landscaped flower bed and took out our irrigation as well as our treated landscape wood to hold in the mulch and flowers.  We had to replace the landscape wood, but will have to wait until Spring to replace the irrigation system there. The other recent accident (February 16, 2019) took out another irrigation head, but worst yet, it took down the very large City street light with a light attached to it for our parking lot, which we pay Duke Energy for every month. You have told us in years past that you are not seeing that many accidents reported to the City; however, if only one car is involved or even two, many times it goes unreported, and they fix their cars themselves, but our damage is left for us to repair. Last year, you did install white posts on the west side of Walnut along with pedestrian lines on the street.  However, that has done nothing to slow the traffic or stop accidents.  I saw two young people on scooters yesterday trying to cross at that corner, and I was concerned for their safety, as the cars were speeding by without stopping for the pedestrians. It was reported in the newspaper this morning that Mayor Hamilton is spending quite a lot of money to assess the trees in Bloomington.  And, while that maybe needed, I feel the safety of the residents of Bloomington and their guests is needed more. Please respond to us as soon as possible. Kindest Regards, Kathy Taylor GROVES SQUARE 812-345-1488 ctaylor586@aol.com

Traffic Signals

1306-1314 S Henderson St, Bloomington, Indiana, 47401

Case Date:
9/23/2019

The crosswalk on Henderson, just north of Brenda Lane, does not have working, flashing lights. Two families had near-misses last week because cars coming from Henderson do not see lights and are not stopping. We believe these lights are solar, and if so, the trees need trimming in that area.

Traffic Signals

1-55 E Winslow Rd, Bloomington, Indiana, 47401

Case Date:
9/24/2019

Since construction started on Winslow Rd. between Walnut St. Pike and S. Walnut St., westbound traffic on Winslow has been a mess due to the single westbound lane approaching the intersection with S. Walnut St. If there is a mix of cars going straight and cars turning left in the single westbound lane, only 2-3 cars make it through on each cycle of the traffic light. During this construction, westbound Winslow Rd. at Walnut St. should either be made "no left turn" or the traffic light cycle should be changed so that westbound traffic gets a period of simultaneous green light and green left turn arrow to allow traffic to clear.

Northbound Patterson at 2nd Street has been malfunctioning for a week now. Intermittently it doesn't turn green for several cycles. Traffic backs up to Allen St. Southbound Patterson will get all green, but northbound will only get a flashing yellow left turn arrow. Cannot believe that this has been going on for week.

I wanted to bring something to your attention. The new light at Rockport & Tapp is nice, but was not the most cyclist friendly yesterday (Sunday, 11/25/2018) morning. I came in and out of town on a group ride via Rockport. We were only four cyclists, so not a big group. In both directions, the light took quite a while to turn for us (with no other traffic around). Then, once we got the green light, it already turned yellow before we were 1/3 of the way (or maybe 1/2 way) into the intersection. A very short light. As a group, we basically communicated, "Green, let's go - hurry up, yellow already!" My concern is a cyclist trying to get through that light, and it turns green for east/west traffic on Tapp before the cyclist can even clear half of the intersection. (Which, with the heavy fog yesterday and the crest of a hill to the west on Tapp, we were concerned). I told my mother about the timing of the light and she said on Saturday she was the third car at a red light on Rockport and the light turned yellow before she could get through the intersection. Maybe the City is still fine tuning things . . .

Regarding the Bloomington TRAFFIC STUDY; response to Beth Rosenbarger's comments regarding crashes and personal injury accidents at the recent Plan Commission meeting: Isn't it possible, the most crashes and personal injuries recorded in Bloomington happen on these one-way streets (Walnut & College and 3rd St. & Atwater), simply because they are the closest thing we currently have to city thoroughfares? I suspect these four streets/avenues are the mostly highly traveled each and every day, thus it is logical there will be more crashes where there is consistently more traffic! The frustration brought on by sitting/waiting in traffic behind busses and delivery vehicles, with no way around them on a two-way street, will most likely lead to crashes and personal injury, as well. Two-way streets are unlikely to result in fewer accidents and injuries. In fact, it may force traffic onto more side streets resulting in more injuries on side streets, as well.

The 4 way stop at E. Allendale and Dunstan Dr in Sherwood oaks is a huge concern. A traffic report has been done. Many cars a day use this route as a cut through and many cars drive too fast and don't stop at this stop sign. This is also a school bus stop and city bus stop. I live at this corner and witness frist hand every day the number of cars that run this stop sign. I'd like to request speed bumps be installed along Allendale to keep the speed limit regulated.

temporary speed bumps were placed in Broadview neighborhood during the intersection closure of Tapp/Country Club and Rockport. These speed bumps should be removed as they were temporary and the newly improved intersection is open.
