Request for Collaborative HAND Walkthrough
I am writing to share a very positive update regarding my health-based relocation to 1229 West 12th St. I want to start by giving a huge shout-out to the BHA team. Janice, Mike, and Chase have been so helpful. I am fully aware that the authority is short-staffed right now, and I am so grateful for the hard work they’ve put into getting this unit ready for me, including the brand-new vanity, the new door, and the recent ozone treatment.
Positive Progress & Shared Goals:
The BHA maintenance team has already knocked out some big items! They replaced the bathroom door and cabinet, which were showing some age-related decay, and they even swapped out a rusted light fixture and the old washing machine drip pans. It’s clear they want this to be a great home for me, and I am just as excited to be a great, long-term tenant who keeps this place in "tip-top" shape.
A Friendly Suggestion for the "Finish Line:"
Since this move was specifically planned to help with some respiratory sensitivities, I would love to suggest a quick collaborative walkthrough with a HAND inspector before I bring in my final furniture and fabrics. I think having that extra set of professional eyes would be a wonderful way to "wrap up" the great work BHA has started and ensure we’ve addressed the root causes of some lingering items:
The Bathroom Floor: Since the previous vanity and door were bulging from old moisture, and there’s a slight "sink" in the floor transition, a quick check would ensure the subfloor is solid for the long run.
Plumbing & Drainage: I’ve noticed a bit of "sludge" and slow draining in the shower. Having this cleared now would prevent a maintenance call-back later!
The Washing Machine: While the new drip pans are great, the washer itself is still leaking a bit from the lid. A quick look could determine if a replacement would better protect the BHA’s new flooring.
Air & Surface Refresh: I’ve noticed a bit of a sticky residue on the windows and blinds. A final "health check" on the air and ventilation (especially the bathroom fan) would give us all total peace of mind that the air is perfectly clear for my move-in.
Moving Forward Together
I am currently balancing a full-time job and coordinating move-in help from friends, so I’m eager to get settled as soon as we cross these last few items off the list!
I truly appreciate the BHA’s partnership in this transition. I believe a quick HAND sign-off is the best way to support the BHA’s hard work, protect the City’s property, and make sure my new home is healthy and ready for years to come.

A lot of trash between wooden sidewalk and 2nd St., just east of Rose Avenue. Photo is looking east, but not much trash is visible in it.

Despite the BHA making multiple efforts to ask the resident in 918 to stop allowing multiple guests to chainsmoke cigarettes and other "combustible materials" given that this is a non-smoking building, I have a documented medical issue, and the presence of oxygen tanks, the resident in 918 continues to allow guests to smoke. The office offered to transfer me to a different unit, but upon receiving the key after signing the lease, the unit had serious water damage and heavy mold. I am not able to move into the new unit until those issues are addressed. Resident in 918 continues to allow smoking day and night, high foot traffic, and sits with his door open all day waiting for me to come and go so he can make comments to try to get a reaction out of me in retaliation for the previous report. This is a follow-up to that previous report. Thank you.b

There is a row of storage units immediately to the south of my apartment at Brandon Ct. There is a space between the units and a fence that is supposed to be maintained by Henderson Court. As you can see by the photo (I can provide more), it appears that unhoused people use it as a place to sleep. The area is strewn with trash, and mattress/foundation, and I would suspect that drug activity is or has occurred in the space. Furthermore, several packages have been stolen off of my stoop by occupants of this space. Clearly, this poses a health and safety hazard.
I ask that the City investigate the area and assess fines and other sanctions against Granite, the listed property owners or managers. In addition to clean up and possible environmental remediation, I want the area secured in such a fashion that in the future no unhoused people can reoccupy the space. The Department may also need to contact Henderson Court for erection of a fence that denies access for the length of the fence that serves as the property line between Henderson Court and Brandon Court.
I would like the City

There is an apartment complex which has been in business for over thirty years that has had graffiti on the retaining wall for over six months. It is located at the corner of Fess and 2nd Street. I initially thought that the owners of the complex would do something about it but so far, nothing.

My neighbors continuously pile trash in their backyard which then blows into my yard + surrounding areas. The daily chore of having to pick up trash in my yard has become unbearable. I’ve also watched squirrels dig through their litter finding things to eat. It’s disrespectful and getting old.

The yard is heavily infested with the yellow-flowering invasive weed Lesser Celandine that the city sent out a flier about, but the house is unoccupied and up for sale, so it’s not clear anyone would receive that notification or be responsible for removing/poisoning the plants. I can see a few plants in the adjacent yards along Brown Ridge, too.
