Traffic Related Complaints

Case Date:

The people who drive cars in this town are typically rude and dismissive of common decency. They constantly speed, even on residential streets; they drive on sidewalks and bike lanes even when there are people present; they drive at night without lights on; they drive drunk; they *often* drive the wrong way on one-way streets; and if you make a comment to them about hazards they are creating they curse and/or gesture obscenely. Please please please ban them from the city. There was an accident recently where a driver hit a cyclist and drove away: https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/local/2023/07/18/police-seek-hit-and-run-driver-of-ford-150-that-struck-bicyclist/70422419007/. Does the City really want to be known as a place that encourages people to risk their lives when they walk or bicycle, and turn a blind eye when people are injured or killed? How many more accidents is it going to take for you to wake up and ban cars from our streets? Thank you.

Following up on case# #185581: The people who ride those scooters are typically rude dismissive of common decency. They ride fast on sidewalks even when there are people present, they ride them in the dark in groups, sometimes 2-3 on a single scooter, they *often* ride the wrong way on one-way streets, and if you make a comment to them about hazards they are creating they curse and/or gesture obscenely. Please please please ban them from the city. Yesterday there was another accident - 10th/Woodlawn this time. Does the City really want to be known as a place that encourages people to risk their lives, and turn a blind eye when people are injured or killed? How many more accidents is it going to take for you to wake up and stop the insanity.

We need to get rid of those electric public scooters. I am a big advocate for public transportation, but it is clear that the infrastructure of Bloomington is not meant to handle anything other than cars, foot traffic, or occasionally bicycles. The use of public electric scooters constantly poses a risk to pedestrians walking, or vehicles in motion. As a walker I have nearly been hit by one of these multiple times, and as a driver these things are such a liability due to their speed and the fact that most people who use them do not follow the rules, they just zip around. Last year a young man died on one of those scooters. This year another is injured. This is becoming a public safety emergency, so please for the sake of the bodily health of the citizens, ban these scooters.

For the love of god, PLEASE clear all brush, trees, grasses, anything growing into the side path on the west side of Sare Rd and the side walk and side path on the east side of Sare Rd from Moores Pike south to East Rhoher Rd. Both sides need cleared and cut back. Someone came out and cut back ONE bush that was overgrown but the rest of the problems down the path were barely touched and continue to reduce the side path to half it's original width. Same just north of Rogers and Sare traffic circle, on east side of Sare. It's been like that for years with little to no response to ureports or work actually being completed. The stretch north of Rhoher on eastside of Sare needs mowed REGULARLY. It is also severely angled, has rough broken surface and is not safe for anyone using a wheelchair or electric runabout scooter. Please send someone out that can take care of our tax dollar community investments. Thank you.

At what point does the city of Bloomington try to address the homelessness issue that is making areas of Bloomington disgusting, unsafe and unusable. Money spent on parks and the b-line wasted because it’s just parking spots for shopping carts and users going through withdrawal. Pleasant neighborhoods now frequently dealing with derelict arguments. Feeling safe at night around most of Bloomington is quickly becoming a thing of the past. It’s very disheartening to see such a nice, fun town being dragged down due to the inability of those in charge to fix issues everyone can see and everyone is impacted by. Do better Bloomington.

Are the articles and news reports true that another sports/outdoors outfitter is going into the old marsh on east side and will be selling firearms? Are there not limitations on this commerce type in the city? If there isn’t, why aren’t legislators working on this. Yes we are in Indiana, but there are also ways to legislate at a local municipality level. Citizens would like to see progress on these major issues.

Leaf Collection

Case Date:

Fall leaves and the tree seed that falls with the leaves can be used to reforest idle land, no mow zones, and natural areas in Bloomington Parks, other city properties and private properties. This idea can help both the city and private home owners to make a positive use of Fall leaves to complete the urban forest canopy. Mixtures of tree seed and leaves spread in layers on land will produce dense stands of native trees. Please forward this idea to Joanna Sparks, Haskell Smith, Gillian Field, Beth Cote. I am willing to meet with them to discuss the details of how to use Fall leaves and tree seed to expand the urban forest in Bloomington. Thank you, Ray Major Forester Trees From Seed on Facebook
