Following up regarding the closing of ticket 1882595. The Animal Control Officer indicated that the fence was, by Zoning standards, too close to the sidewalk. (I.e., not that it wasn't tall enough.)

I am a neighbor of this address. Twice in the past year, the two dogs who live at this property have been in the street and charged me and my dog. On another occasion, one of the dogs charged the property's fence and attempted to bite me by reaching *over* the fence. I have reported two of these instances to Animal Control. The last time (when the dog attempt to bite over the fence), the Animal Control officer told me that he had explained to the owners that their fence violates zoning by being too close to the sidewalk, and that the owners had expressed an intention to remove the fence in the front and keep the dogs in the back. However, I have heard, "We keep the dogs in the back" multiple times, when that is not true. The Animal Control Officer suggested that I could contact the city's zoning office, to have the fencing issue in the front yard addressed. I cannot find a way to contact Zoning specifically, so I am submitting the request here. FWIW, other people have had encounters with these dogs, though I don't know if they have reported it. Thank you.

Sidewalk Requests

2626 S Bryan ST

I watch people walk by my house all day and worry about cars who constantly cut the corner. Today I heard a man yelling at a jogger to run on the sidewalk, but there isn't one. There is much more foot traffic in this neighborhood with the b line trail having a path right onto Bryan Street. I wouldn't mind a sidewalk going around my house

Sidewalk Requests

1609 S Rogers ST

Case Date:

I would love to see a proper crosswalk and sidewalks added at all sides of the Rogers and Rockport intersection. I would also like to request a completed sidewalk added to the east side of Rogers between Rockport and the Switchyard Park entrance. Families from Rockport Hills and the surrounding neighborhoods often walk over to Switchyard Park and I personally have had and witnessed numerous close calls attempting to cross Rogers to enter Switchyard Park on foot. It would be great to have some sort of crosswalk added at the Switchyard entrance to aid those on foot trying to cross Rogers and enter the park. During larger events when the park parking lot fills up, there is overflow parking in the field in front of Catalent. Then a huge flow of people are forced to wait for traffic in order to essentially jaywalk into the park. It seems to me that some infrastructure improvements are needed for this area of Rogers St. to facilitate the main entrance to one of the largest parks in the city. Finally, I think it would be great to have some sort of high retaining wall built around the massive eye-sore electrical transfer station directly across from the park entrance (similar to the one built right next to the Upland Woodshop). Thank you for your time and consideration!

Biking & Walking

923 S Walnut ST

Case Date:
9/14/2023

To Whom It May Concern, this is more of a recommendation than an problem. The pedestrian/bike crossing light on Allen St across Walnut is generally pretty good. Currently, there is a button to activate the lights on the sidewalks and wanted to suggest installing an additional button curbside for bikers. As it's currently constructed the median has two cut-outs so bicyclists can stay in the road (which is where we should be), but activating the light requires we ride up on the sidewalk. Most bikers, myself included, just keep an eye on the road to cross once traffic passes rather than hop the curb to activate the crossing light. The problem arises when a driver decides to yield; it's a nice gesture, but with two lanes of traffic in both directions it isn't safe to cross unless drivers in both lanes decide to yield and it's difficult to see over the stopped car to make sure the second lane is clear. I tend to wave the driver who has yielded to indicate they should just keep going, Bloomington drivers being Bloomington drivers they defer to being polite. A button positioned for bicyclists would make it clearer to both drivers and cyclists when it is safe to cross. This crossing point gets a fair amount of pedestrian and cycle traffic, but I don't think it is enough for a button to disrupt car flow on Walnut.

There is one block of Ruby Ln (my block) with no sidewalk. Please consider converting the huge culvert that runs along the S side of Ruby from Nancy to High into a storm drain, and putting a sidewalk over the drain.

Sidewalks needed on Walnut St. Pike between Winslow and Rhorer Rd. There are brief stretches of sidewalk on different sides of the road, forcing pedestrians to choose between making a dangerous street crossing to stay on a sidewalk or to walk in a ditch. Winslow and Rhorer are both pedestrian heavy areas. This issue will only get worse when the new subdivision is built.

It is great to see that Public Works is currently installing ADA-compliant ramps between E 2nd Street and High Street. Is it also part of ADA compliance to complete the missing sidewalk to the west of 2000 E 2nd St?

Will the improvements to E 2nd Street include installing sidewalk to fill the gap between 1935 E 2nd and 2000 E 2nd Street? This gap is a barrier to accessibility for pedestrians on this street.
