There are some new safety concerns since the "Relato" building opened next to the multi-use path between Pete Ellis and the bypass on 7th Street. First, there's a conflict point where the garage exits to 7th street. Cars are already pulling quickly across the path towards the street, while bike traffic doesn't necessarily slow for the blind corner of the garage exit either. I've included a photo of a location where this is handled better. This is from the new development on the old K-Mart lot which also has a garage that immediately crosses a bike path. At that location, green boxes with white chevrons appear where the bike and car traffic cross, indicating to both parties that it's a conflict point. ------ The second safety concern is where the multi-use path takes right-angle turn around the corner of the Relato. This used to be an empty field with great sight lines and now those sight lines are blocked. At this corner I have already seen what could have been a couple near collisions due to the shortened sight lines. A treatment that could help here would be what was done at the right angle turn going into the bypass underpass tunnel-- Add a solid center line going around the corner to indicate that parties in both directions should stay in their lane going around the corner. I feel that treatment has made the underpass corner safer and I think it would help signal safer behavior here, too. Thanks!

At 7:26 am on 11/31/2023, a motorist in a dark BMW nearly ran me over as I was crossing the street. The vehicle was traveling about 50 MPH based on my calculation (speed=distance/time.) This is not the first near miss that I have had crossing the street or backing out of my driveway. I have sent in requests for a speed hump as motorist travel north and south between 3rd and 5th much faster than 25 MPH. I have not heard back from anyone. Please let me know that you have at least seen this uReport ticket. I tried to submit this report in the "Close Call" section more than once and it does not work.

Kinser Pike road and sidewalks have been destroyed for a long time now after the construction at 17th and Kinser. These should have been repaired right after the gas line construction. Do bad this isn't the Eastside or IU as you all would've had it repaired the next day

The intersection of Pete Ellis Dr./Discovery Parkway and 10th Street is used by residents of numerous apartment complexes, bus riders, and community members accessing the post office and the greenway that goes along 10th St. The intersection is necessary for access to Indiana University from Woodbridge and Fountain Park Apartments, which hosts many graduate students. However, there is no crosswalk, pedestrian lights, or sidewalk platforms to allow for safe crossing along this very busy intersection. Additionally, the traffic lights are not able to be seen from the four corners of the intersection, forcing pedestrians to make an educated guess on when to cross. In short, the intersection is dangerous and near impossible to cross. Would it be at all possible in the future to include a) a crosswalk b) a pedestrian crosswalk light c) sidewalk cutout/curb ramps on the two corners in which there is not one currently? This street is part of the 7 line and yet doesn’t have any traffic demarcation. Needs lane/yellow lines and white bike symbols. This was needed 4 years ago. They are completely gone now leading people to believe it is a one way street. This street (all of 7th, on campus) is part of the city’s green initiative and alternative transportation effort. thanks!

The lack of 4 way stops on 7th near Dunn is a severe hazard, resulting in several accidents. This is an extreme hazard for cyclists. Can someone from the city pedestrian and bicycle commission contact me about it. I would like to add it to the agenda at the next meeting in November.

The 7th street bike lane is terrible. The curb greatly reduces bikes ability to avoid any danger in the bike lane. If a car turns into the bike lane, the biker can't avoid it due to the curb. I much prefer the old setup with bike lanes on each side of the street. I can't believe you wasted so much time and money to make a bike lane that's so much worse than before.

I am a parent of a student living at Union Street Center Apartments. I have been observing this area for some time and feel there is a safety risk for pedestrians crossing from a parking lot to the Apartments. I have addressed this with the University and they said this had been passed on to Bloomington official and I never heard back from the city. They said its not their property and the City of Bloomington would need to address. I have tried emailing another official and again have not heard back. The issue is N. Union Street needs 2 Crosswalks at each end of the parking lot, with Yellow Flashing Warning Signs in each direction. In addition, the lighting is poor in that area, again increasing the risk at night. The Risk Analysis would show there is a high risk of Severity, Frequency, and Probability for an accident in this area. Cars traveling from 10th street to 3rd as a cut through are traveling down hill and pick momentum or speed. I would be happy to discuss this issue with anyone who will listen, so we all fully understand the issue.
